The territory of Val di Cecina lends itself perfectly to hiking and walking in nature. The valley boasts a dense network of paths of varying difficulty and length. There are therefore itineraries suitable for experienced and non-expert hikers, ideal walks for families with children, but also routes for sports training.
To tackle the itineraries are always necessary: suitable boots, poles and rucksacks with water and snacks to eat along the way.
The Cecina river is a point of reference for hikers. Along its banks it is in fact possible to take long scenic walks, easy to tackle even for the less fit or for those approaching hiking for the first time.
In summer you can walk a few tracts of the river back to the source. If you are willing to get your feet wet, you can even walk right in the river bed. The river Cecina crosses the territory creeping into the hills and offers beautiful views of the surroundings and local villages.
Also the other streams of the area can be used as a reference for hiking and easy excursions.
The hills are instead crossed by numerous itineraries that require more experience. The uphill paths are often impervious, hidden by vegetation, with rocks and plants that make them even more difficult. The effort, however, is fully repaid when, once you reach the top, you can admire the sea in the distance.
The associations of the territory that organize excursions and hiking in Val di Cecina are active all year round. They offer more or less easy itineraries that lead to the discovery of the most evocative corners of the area.
